The gardens at Casa Estrella provide an abundance of seasonal flowers and greenery. Most striking in the fall are La Flor de la Nochebuena (poinsettia) that can reach up to 13 feet in height! The poinsettia is native to Mexico and is found throughout the country.
Guanajuato, located in the sub-tropics, has a semi-arid climate which lends itself to a variety of succulents and cacti. The prickly pear cactus yields a nutritious and succulent red tuna (fruit). It is also known as the paddle cactus because of the green, spiny paddles which provide nopales frequently used in Mexican cuisine. You will find them in our gardens and growing almost everywhere! These and many other types of native plants can be found at Casa Estrella.
